Biography
Born in Chicago, Bernie Cobb’s interest in Art emerged at the age of eight, when he won his first Art award. That accomplishment inspired Bernie’s love of art and appreciation. In his early 20’s, he worked with the Sign & Pictorial Painters of America as a gold-leaf draftsman, tirelessly perfecting his craft. During this time, he earned numerous scholarships to the Art Institute of Chicago and continued studying and painting at the American Academy of Art.
In his mid-twenties, Bernie married his wife Carol and they had two sons, Bernie Jr. and Christopher. Faced with the demands of raising a family, Bernie embarked on a successful career in Real Estate. Along with his new career, he spent the next 3 decades studying Art and developing a nice collection of oil paintings and bronze sculptures throughout his travels across the country.
During this past decade, Bernie has reignited his passion for painting at The Palette and Chisel Art Club in Chicago, while serving on their Board of Directors for several years. Through the use of brush, finger tip and knife strokes, he has brought to life his appreciation and love of nature, the human form, light and emotion. Bernie enjoys painting impressions of a variety of cultures, with his favorite being the American West. He has been highly influenced by such great artists as Winslow Homer, Frank Tenney Johnson, Daniel Gerhartz and John Singer Sargent.
